The origins of this term are obscure. Wikipedia gives three possible explanations: it may derive from Loidis, the mediaeval name for the district where Leeds now stands; or it may come from the local pronunciation of either 'lanes' (the back streets of the city centre) or 'low ins' (the back entrances to the yards and closes of the city centre in the 19th century).
The Yorkshire Post (in a match report dating from 2015, referenced by Wikipedia) referred to Leeds RLFC as "the Loiners".
